We're so glad you're here!

As a Reconciling in Christ Congregation, the people of St. Luke Lutheran Church are called by God to be a community of Christians, a part of the body of Christ. Because we believe we are one in God’s eyes, we welcome the mix of ages, races, gender identities, physical and mental capabilities, and sexual orientations with which God’s children are blessed. Everyone is invited to share in God’s grace. We rejoice in the knowledge that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus–not our wealth, nor our poverty, nor our nationality, nor our political convictions, nor whom we love, nor anything else in all creation. We are called to follow God’s mission of reconciliation and justice with all humanity, and we celebrate our journey of discipleship with a special appreciation for the privileged responsibility of our campus related ministry.

Worship and What to Expect:

If you are interested in joining us for Sunday worship, all you need to do is show up. Just as you are, no need to fuss. Some folks come in jackets and dresses, others in shorts and t-shirts. Some are lifelong Lutherans while others are not sure what they believe. We have seekers, spiritual and not religious, people that know all the motions, and some that are not even sure of what Christians do. Learn more about St. Luke and our mission to Collegetown, Ithaca, and the world. If you are looking for a church home, we hope to be that place for you, if you are just passing through we wish you Godspeed on your journey.

Children and Worship

Here at St. Luke, we value the participation of people of all ages. As you enter the sanctuary you will notice a large space towards the front where there are no pews. This is the prayerground – a space dedicated for the children. They have projects and activities there to help keep them occupied during the services. Children are present during the entire worship service with easy access to the restrooms and changing room in the nursery. An usher or member of the church will happily show you around if this is your first time visiting.

The second Sunday of every month during the school year we have "Godly Play" Sunday School after the worship service.

Music is the Heartbeat of Worship

Our services of worship and praise follow the Evangelical Lutheran tradition of worship liturgies and music. The music at St. Luke utilizes the organ year-round with choir during the academic terms. Our annual celebrations include World Communion Sunday (the first Sunday in October), a festive service on Reformation Sunday (the last Sunday in October), an Advent Lessons and Carols Service in December, traditional Christmas Eve services, Jazz Vespers on Mardi Gras (the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday), Holy Week services, and forms in Evangelical Lutheran Worship, and enact the priesthood of all believers by inviting members to share their God-given gifts of leadership, including musical.
