Welcome to this Service of Justice and Peace, where we come together as a community to reflect deeply on our calling to live out God’s justice and peace. In Micah 6:8, the prophet reminds us of God’s call: “What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” This verse centers us as we gather to engage in a justice that seeks no retribution and a peace that shuns violence.

The ELCA teaches us that “Because God redeems us through Christ, we are made new to love and serve all neighbors. Loving neighbors includes working for justice in our personal and public lives.” As people of faith, we are called to recognize and confront the systems of racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, transphobia, and all other forces that keep us from seeing the image of God in each person. These forces have created deep wounds in our world, and today, we bring them into the light of God’s love and healing.

Here at St. Luke Lutheran Church, we gather not only to lament our own roles in systems of oppression but also to rejoice in the freedom that Christ brings—freedom to love boldly and work for change courageously. In our worship, we are reminded that we do not take these steps alone but are supported by each other and strengthened by God’s Spirit, who walks with us in the ongoing work of justice and peace.

Together, let us enter into this time with open hearts, ready to lament, ready to rejoice, and ready to respond to God’s loving call to justice, kindness, and humility.

Holy Communion is the main service in Christian worship. The Holy Spirit gathers people together around the Word of God (Jesus and scripture) and the sacraments (Holy Communion, Baptism, and Forgiveness). Together we hear the message of God’s love for the world and Their grace for all its people.

Our services of worship and praise following the Evangelical Lutheran Worship liturgies and music.

After worship you may find a coffee hour or social gathering in the narthex (church talk for lobby). Please enjoy refreshments and conversation. Anyone with a name tag will happily answer questions, but folks with colored tags are in specific leadership roles, such as Council (blue), LEAD (yellow), or Ushers (green).
