As you may recall, last year we ushered in a new liturgical season – the Season of Creation. Do you remember? That was the time when we had the Tree of Life in the prayground and talked about al the animals that live in the woods of Ithaca…even the giraffes?

Well, it is that time again. The Season of Creation is described by the Rev. Dr. Cynthia D. Moe-Lobeda of the Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary as “…a splendid opportunity for Christians around the world to embody the communion for which we human earthlings are created, and to do so in the quest for lifeways that build justice among people and allow Earth’s web of life to flourish.”

The Season begins on September 1 and ends on the Feast of St. Francis on October 6. The liturgical color for the season is orange and we will slowly introduce vestments and paraments over time (perhaps next year) as we celebrate.

Here is the outline for the upcoming Sundays:
Planet Earth Sunday – September 1
Humanity Sunday – September 8
Sky Sunday – September 15
Mountain Sunday – September 22
St. Francis Sunday – October 6

Each Sunday will focus on a bit of the way our scripture connects to the world in which we live. If you noticed that there is a Sunday missing in the list above, September 29 will be a celebration of Michael and All Angels. More on that as we get closer to the 29th.

In peace,
Pr. Jason
